E-Readers Plan to Adopt a Pulse Oximeter

The way people read books has drastically changed over the past few years. When the first electronic reader came out, the technology market brushed it off as just another fad, but they were very wrong. Not only has the cost of an e-reader gone down almost in half, but the number of books available has also gone up easily ten folds. The original idea behind the e-reader was to cut down on the cost of publishing books. If a hardcover novel costs an average of thirty dollars, its cost can be easily forty percent. On the other hand, the cost of an electronic book is well below ten percent. This industry started out to help cut cost for the publishers and maximize the profits for authors, but it turned out to also help cut costs for readers alike.

The industry has grown so rapidly that it is already at the stage of its growth where it is already starting to adopt other add on products and applications. New e-readers have built in wireless internet, which allows for users to instantly download new books and magazines directly to their e-reader. In the past the e-reader had to be connected to a desktop computer for any additions. A new product that now has the ability to be connected to an e-reader is a pulse oximeter. A pulse oximeter, also known as a pulse ox by some medical professionals, is a medical device used to measure the blood oxygen saturation and pulse rate of an individual. A new finger pulse oximeter is smaller than most cellular phones, and provides fast and accurate readings. These readings are now able to be transmitted to an e-reader for storage via Bluetooth technology, similar technology used for wireless networking.

As the popularity of e-readers continues to grow, so does the addition of new products and applications. Many different users have shown great interest in pulse oximeter applications, and therefore many different software developers have taken notice and have started to create new applications. We have even seen many electronic manufacturers take notice and copy the products. You can now buy e-readers from Apple, Samsung, Sony, Amazon, and many other companies.

As the technology world continues to advance, we will continue to see old world technologies be adapted to be incorporated. No matter how advanced technology gets, the need for certain devices will not diminish. A pulse oximeter is a medical device that millions depend on a daily basis.
